Colon hydrotherapy, colonic or colon cleansing are different ways of saying the same thing. Colon Hydrotherapy is a natural treatment that involves irrigating the colon with purified and filtered water.
History of Colon Hydrotherapy
The history of Colon Hydrotherapy dates back to ancient Egypt and India. It was also practiced by the ancient Greeks and Romans. In the 19th century, Colon Hydrotherapy became popular in Europe and the United States. However, it declined in popularity in the 20th century due to the rise of modern medicine. In recent years, there has been a resurgence of interest in Colon Hydrotherapy as people have become more interested in natural health and alternative medicine.
How Colon Hydrotherapy Works with a Gravity Fed Closed System
There are essentially two methods of Colon Hydrotherapy: the pressurized or machine method, or the Gravity Method. We use the Gravity Method because we believe in the gentle power of gravity. Our therapists have experience with both methods, and find gravity-fed colonics are an effective way to cleanse the colon while still being gentle.
What to Expect During a Colon Hydrotherapy Session
A typical Colon Hydrotherapy session lasts for about 45 minutes. You will be asked to undress from the waist down and lie on a padded table. The therapist will then insert the tube into your rectum and begin the irrigation process. Filtered water enters the bowel through a special device known as the speculum, via a long narrow plastic tube. A larger and wider plastic see-through tube is attached to another part of the speculum through which the waste and gas make their exit towards the normal waste drain. These tubes and speculums are for individual use and disposed of in special containers after each use. Your stomach will be massaged strategically throughout the session to help ease cramps and facilitate movement.
